Dizzy Trainspotters (CD Rotation thread)
I recently picked up the new Opeth album. I've only had it a couple of days and I don't even know the name of it.
But.......(looks to Lowbrow)....it one of the best albums I have ever bought. Its a combination of Stoner Rock and Swedeish Black Metal. Very complex, very progressive, and not all growling vocals.
Its better than SithLord anyway Lowbrow.
Hey i only bought Sithlord cause of the name and it was in a 2 dollar bin, same deal as Antanaeus "Cut your flesh and worship satan". Shit album, wicked title.
I bet its better than that winey prick fro Jebidiah's solo shit.
Yeah, but not as creative as the beats in Xavier Rudd tracks.
Oh Shit.
I think Lowbrow and I are slowly swapping identities.
I can't get enough of Kyuss and he's playing records.
Mustard's Album of the week: Kyuss, Blues for the red sun. It gets a five out of five on the 'chunky as fuckometer'

Picked up the new Muse album. Very cool and a lot more experimental then their previous. It will take a few more listenes to fully 'get' though.
And Sam picked up the new 'TV on the Radio'. From what I have heard so far its fucking cool.
Oh yeah...and I got The Eraser, the new Thom Yorke album. Very smart, very subtle, and until I listen to it more.......a little boring. Ask me again in a week though.
yes I got The Eraser too, and would have to agree with your assessment Scotto. I haven't been listening very attentively, however, as I have plenty of faith that it will be a slow grower. Can't rush Thom Yorke.
Also, I finally got my own copy of James Holden's Balance CD (wait long enough for anything and you will find it for $10) and have been listening to it at work so much that I am starting to suspect I am a secret prog-head. goddmnit damnit damn.
The worst of it is that my favourite track on it (apart from Jake Fairley - Oshawa of course) is the cheesiest track there, with the cheesiest vocals. Track 10. I love it. In fact, there was a time last year when I kept going to a local cafe after work particularly to enjoy the cheesy trancey CD they always played, and this was my favourite track on it too. :
tee hee, kinda makes me wanna tickle you and hear a faint giggle and say "trance, boh!"
but that's not very nice....
james holden's balance is pretty good.
prog? probably but hey - isn't radiohead prog and tool prog and pink floyd prog?
prog rock vs prog house vs prog metal vs prog government - all in the ring tonight at the moreland hotel's super dome
i wanna listen to erasor.
seeing as how i only just got a copy of kid-a and hail to the thief (and i considered myself a big radiohead fan.) may as well just buy it in 10 years and be consistant
i recieved this album by tim hecker a few days ago

it is called radio amor and is a building sequence of distortion encrusted beauty. highly reccomended for winter times when locked in the house. each track is built from compressed distortion and resonance with faint harmonies coming in now and again to hold the building pattern of each track .. very cool. a subtle intensity for sure.
its funny that your now getting into kyuss damian. back when i used to live in southbank with tom and adam, they pumped kyuss 24-7 and all we could do was think .. what is this shit... i came around in the end after a few deep talkings too by the boys. kyuss rocks
swap you hecker for yorke, luka.
& you just got Kid A? oh my, joy ahead. almost like when I started reading the first book of The Famous Five and my sister said she was jealous, because I still had all unread 21 ahead of me.
Yeah, Triple J's new releases show played 'The Eraser' in its entirety the other week, split it in half and played an interview with Thom in the middle .. I've heard the album, quite a few times now .. and yeah, it's a slow grower for shiz! But I'm loving it ... I'm finding it quite inspirational on the production front (both in things to try out and things to remember not to do).
The interview is really quite interesting - best aspect is the fact that Thom actually sounds happy for once!! It seems he has become a bit more serious about the music (both solo & in the band) and lost a little bit of the mysterious, depressed artist persona. And the new found opinions on P.R and giving for his audience means that I finally feel like I can figure hi out a bit .. he's hugely environmentally concious!!
Anyway, so far rating for Eraser = 6.5 out of ten for me. But that's subject to change as I listen more.
Seeing the album artwork will also affect my opinions of the album as a whole.
Anyway, being up in this big house alone, on a Sunday evening, after a mediocre-ly sized weekend has left me very babbly!! hehee
Have a good week everyone ..
Yeah, I think Eraser is starting to make sense to me. I'm enjoying a lot more than when I first got it......as expected.
I also picked up the new Helmet CD, Monochrome. As expected, I can sum up this masterpiece in 3 words:
"Hard as Fuck".
check these guys out, kinda sounds new wave 80s punk disco. the single space for rent is wicked. be surprised if none of you have heard it yet.

it's not that one day, one day, one day, one day song is it?
fuck no.
dude.
but eh, grania will tell ya how much she loves luke chabelle and nubreed's one day.
space for rent is the tune hitting the radio. was playing at the retreat on friday night and this dude came and requested it. i failed to copy that one to disc unfortunately and he decided i was the worst dj on the whole fucken planet.
fair nuff
and it's nothing to do with acca dacca either
i'm up to track 10 now and it's taken a turn for the ACID
wicked what a surprise. surfy slide guitars (floyd like almost) with subtle squelchy tb 303 and live disco drumming. (2 mins later) ooh they've just hit the punk three chord progression bit. all the basslines are like walking octavated but it's all so punk at the same time.
*edit
and i've just skipped to the final track, trippers and i've heard this before, but this is where the version of benny benassi's satisfaction on guitar drums n bass comes from. surely some of you have heard that. push me till i can get my. . . . sung in full punk british yob accent with screaming chick.
what about justice vs simian, any of you editors heard that yet

managed to list the the new comets on fire album last night (and i bought it on tuesday, just a bit of lag) but its awsome, rock with a fair stoner quotent, and a fair bit of jazz and blues infused in it. a real nice complete album, i'm gonna like this one
sounds cool man
comets on fire ay?
never heard of em.

g'morning me hearty
i had never herd of them untill about 2 weeks ago, album of the week on rrr, and sometims you just here one song and go "i'm gonna have to buy that album" and it is good, oh the album is called avatar, their previouse album is blue cathedral, i might have to look into that too, and as for a link, just google it
wizz-erd
On high rotation:
Hermano - (don't know the album); dusty, gravely, chunky stoner rock. Vocals from Kyuss' singer.
Toupee's Sunny Demo - bit of an oldie but it's made its way back into my car.
Muse - Origin of Symmetry; not much I can say... fucking great album. Brilliant vocals.
Oldie but brilliant and now mine on vinyl...
Radiohead: The Bends.
Nice Purchase.
Sam and I just bought the new Beck Album. It come with stickers and the book is just graph paper so you can make your own book.

OK, I've picked up a couple of great Australian Releases recently.
Like Drawing Blood by Gotye
This guy spent 2 years in various bedrooms creating this masterpiece on his computer. Each song is radically different ranging from 'cut and paste' like mixing through to Mowtown tributes. And some tracks even sound like Radiohead. Fucking awsome album.
Your Tears Are Warning Signs by The Red Paintings
Great band originally from Geelong but moved to Brisbane. Its nice to see Aussie acts that truly treat their music as Art and not a Ladder to stardom. Well this album, rather than being the full band setup is just the singer/guitarist, violinist and cellist (Celloist?). Its captured my heart and soul this album. Its truly amazing.
Oh yeah.....and its recorded in one take.
*Scotto - you're an idiot* - tailz
